Us Well

SCROLL

“The grandson tries to remember what the father tried to forget”

A live devoid of adventure, I cannot imagine it. In fact, the possibility of living a life of serenity; clothed in tranquility and residing in calm, makes me want to vomit. Something I have learned about myself, recently, is that there’s a spirit within that desires adventure and thrill. Something inside enjoys experiences that leave the stomach behind, with cold sweat as a reminder the ability to breathe was recently wagered. That’s life, man. Perhaps it is silly to crave adventure, or a boyish pursuit. However, I think there’s something remarkable about it. And I’d like to pursue it more often than I have been.

Christianity teaches us we have no fear of anything in life, because death has already been conquered. However, I really wonder if we believe what we preach. What I fear we have is a life free of the fear of death, while living in fear to live freely. That may need to be read again.

You know who you are. I’ll never forget.

While watching a recent episode of Spartacus, I felt something while watching one of the characters proclaim, while thrusting his sword through his opponent’s abdomen, “See who stands now!” or something to that effect. I’d like to think that my life will stand in a similar manner; fighting adversity with triumphant declaration that this man is not crushed, yet. This idea can take a very G0d-less mentality. However, I believe it is essential to give credit where it is due; without His divine hand, we would have nothing to proclaim about, let alone breath to breathe. I believe He rejoices in our victory, when we are rightfully giving Him credit and honor as it is only deserved His name.

And so we stand. Undeterred by the pressure growing on our back. Where others would complain and shrug, we scream for more. Without a challenge, our backs will never grow stronger. When others would shirk challenges and request easier circumstances, we press towards difficulty and trial; without breaking-point encounters, our minds would never be honed to skillful perfection. We don’t enter into arenas where we know we will be the victor. Rather, we step forward into the unknown so that our true mettle may be tested. And so we stand.

Press forward. Don’t ever give up. When everybody else around you is dropping, take one more step forward and separate yourself from those who cannot bear the weight life brings. Rise to meet the challenge. Never forget your good friend, failure, who is just one step behind you; ever-willing to take the lead if you shirk your focus for but a moment. Your life has a vision, purpose, and responsibility to live as no others have lived. Live. Your fight ought to come as naturally as the air you inhale. Use it to strengthen you.

See you on the field, champ.
