I’ve heard it said that we ought to be thankful every day and have one day, per year, to complain. It’s a funny statement to unpack, as it’s a reminder to be consistently thankful. When I was living in Dallas, I had the good fortune of meeting somebody who made a point to express gratitude for every element of her life. It sparked me to make a habit of gratitude for everything in my life.
At the time, I didn’t understand that the notion of being grateful would have powerful ripple effects; touching my state of mind, relationships, career, and inner awareness. Now, I recognize the transforming power gratitude has; it can turn tears into laughter, broken pieces into masterpieces, and hurt into wholeness.
The older I get, the more I realize life is a journey of self-exploration and discovery. Each new experience is an opportunity to discover something new about how you engage with your own life. At the core is the choice to resonate from a place of fear…or glow with the light of love.
This year has taught me that it’s [sometimes] necessary to leave home in order to find it. Similar to how some join a religious organization to ‘fix’ their lives, others feel compelled to leave these organizations because they realize they ‘re no longer sick, but can heal others. Our lives are in motion and do not handle ruts of stagnation.
I’m most thankful for the relationship that I have with my brother, Steve. We have shared the most amazing experiences in this wonderful city (and beyond) that have become a valuable part of my adult life. When I think about our friendship, I’m humbled with gratitude that I can call my own brother my best friend.
Steve and I have supported each other in [the most] difficult times, as well as soared to new heights through our experiences in SF. He taught me the value of strong work ethic, with no limits to what we can achieve – or the value we bring to a company – through diligence and dedication.
To close a rather disjointed blog, I have to rest in a state of gratitude for everything my life has been, is, and will be in the future.
The universe has been so, so, so good to me.
