There are few things I enjoy more than spending an evening with my brother, Mark Plaat. He consistently provides quality material to think about, while maintaining a healthy sense of criticism for my approach in life, which keeps me grounded and steady during the times where I tend to panic. See, I had a bit of a problem There have been many instances in the course of our lives where he has helped provide an outpouring of wisdom that clearly goes beyond his 20 years of breathing on this earth. It’s difficult to have a conversation with him and now walk away bothered; something he said will make you think and reevaluate your current outlook on life or you will feel silly for not coming to the conclusions he stated earlier on in your life.
When speaking about what we want to accomplish from life, I asked him: “Mark, what do you want to be the accomplishment of your life?” “Well, I want to serve G-d.” While this would appear to be a no-brainer answer, it really makes me feel childish for not living this out on a regular basis. How different would our lives be if every thought, action, or desire to come through our minds were instantaneously surrendered to His will? This elementary notion almost sounds as if it is somehow of too basic a composition to be intelligently lived out by adult human beings. Is it any coincidence Christ told the people to approach Him as the children do?
Children think simply; they are not afraid to call out their thoughts, opinions, or complaints. Their level of immaturity often goes beyond the moral integrity of those constrained to political correctness and the fear of stepping on the toes of others. Why is it so wrong to have an opinion?
That’s a bit of a sidetrack. Let’s bring it in, champ.
Live simply. Live for Him. He will bring it all together. He promises it.
