“Every father should remember that one day his son will follow his example instead of his advice”
Happy Fathers Day. It’s days like today where I remember the wonderful examples and lessons that have been placed in my life through the memory of my father, Willem Lucas Plaat (5/31/57-7/29/07). Dad, thanks for everything you taught your children. Thank you for having your children. And, most importantly, thank you for loving us with everything (quite literally) that you had to give on this earth. Thinking about it, I have no idea how you held yourself up together quite the way you did; many men would have buckled under the pressure you carried. You are my Superman. See you soon.
Well, I guess now it’s time for the meat and potatoes of my writing. Today has been an interesting day where I’ve done my best to set my head properly on my neck for the upcoming week. I’ve been doing my best to cherish the long-lost idea of loyalty. It has not been a practice I’ve exactly championed in my life. And it is high time that that changed. That was an awkward sentence.
Loyalty. What is it? What is is that makes us stick around to those people through the thick and thin? What is it that causes us to forget and hurt those who love us the most? On the flip side, why do we feel obligated to keep many of our friends around who no longer have anything in common with us? You don’t keep a car around for your entire life. Should our friends be different? People change over time. This is just food for thought.
Since this post really has no direction, I guess it’s time for a change of subject from a topic that has no clear direction. Is it raining? Is it snowing? Is a hurricane a-blowing? Thank you, Mr. Wonka.
Growing up has been a roller coaster for me. I constantly wonder if I am becoming the Man I’ve always wanted to be, or if my life is just a consistent failure from one project to another. Sure, I get it’s not. What I do not know, however, is if I am taking steps in the right direction. I want what I cannot have.
I’m done. On the flip side, my workouts have been going very well and here’s the unashamedly-vain photoblog update on my workout progress:
Getting there…
